Four people were treated for minor injuries after a two-alarm fire tore through a four-story apartment building in Bay Ridge Sunday evening, fire officials said.
The Fire Department began receiving multiple calls reporting a fire in a basement apartment at 555 Ovington Ave. shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Engine Company 241 and Ladder Company 109 arrived to heavy fire in the basement, with flames extending through walls and void spaces into the first and second floors of the four-story building.
Residents were seen fleeing the building with cats and dogs as temperatures hovered around 35 degrees.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said smoke quickly filled the hallway as alarms sounded throughout the building.
“We looked out the peephole and saw the hall filling with smoke, so we got out as quickly as possible,” the resident said.
More than 100 firefighters stretched five hose lines and conducted searches throughout the building, which were negative for additional victims.
The fire was knocked down and placed under control at 9:45 p.m. Fire marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
