A merciless marauder broke into a Dyker Heights apartment on May 9 — two days before Mother’s Day — and slugged a 69-year-old grandmother on the head, knocking her to the floor.
The hard-hearted hood forced his way into the 70th Street apartment at around 9:45 pm as the victim was tending to her 97-year-old mother.
She heard noises in the kitchen, so she investigated, encountering a stocky man in dark clothes and a mask, who smacked her on the head, opening a gash that required stitches.
With his victim on the ground, the violent villain fled from the apartment, which is between 13th and 14th avenues, through a rear window, cops say.
The violent home invasion — which comes only two weeks after crooks broke into a home on 11th Avenue between 72nd and 73rd streets and stole $3,000 in jewelry and $3,200 in cash — garnered the interest of local politicians including Borough President Markowitz, who visited the victim at her home on Monday and demanded better policing.
“I have spoken with commanders at Brooklyn South and the 68th Precinct about the recent incidents in Dyker Heights, and they have assured me there will be increased police patrols in the neighborhood from now through the summer,” Markowitz said in a statement. “Friday night’s attack was particularly vicious, and I assured [the victim] that my office and law enforcement will do everything possible to apprehend the thug responsible, and ensure the ongoing safety of the residents of Dyker Heights.”
