The Big Easy came to Bay Ridge!
Ridgites paraded to Holy Angels Catholic Academy on 74th Street between Third and Fourth avenues on March 3 for its annual Mardi Gras-themed “Pot of Gold” fund-raiser. The 300 attendees danced and second-lined the night away after fueling up with a New Orleans-inspired shrimp, chicken, and vegetable dinner, according to the event chair, who said the fund-raiser was a success.
“It was a lovely event,” said Suzanne Corhan.
A third of the ticket proceeds — $10,000 — went towards the school, according to Corhan, and a lucky attendee received a prize of the same amount in a raffle. Other attendees also received smaller cash prizes.
A DJ spun tunes in the school gym, which organizers decked out with balloons, beads, and Mardi Gras masks to evoke the Big Easy’s Bourbon Street, Corhan said.
“We tried to really set a scene in there so that it had that feel,” she said.
