Big iPod thefts

Ring tones

Two thugs used a clever ruse to snatch five iPod music players from the hand of an unsuspecting pedestrian on Shore Road on Dec. 31.

The victim told cops that the two men approached him on the corner of Shore Road and 86th Street at 9 pm, and one of the men asked to use his phone. When he obliged, the second perp grabbed a shopping bag containing the music players and several other items, worth more than $2,000.

Both muggers then ran off, throwing the victim’s phone on the ground as they fled.

Broken up

Two do-gooders’ best intentions resulted in head injuries when they tried to break up an argument on Dec. 30.

The victims, both men, told cops that they saw two people arguing on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street at 3 am.

When they tried to intervene, one of the arguers attacked them with a heavy object. One of the men sustained injuries to the back of his head, and the other received cuts to his face, including one laceration stretching from his ear to his chin.
