Biondi has big night as Clones win

Cyclones 5
Aberdeen 3

July 6 at Aberdeen

Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi had a humongous night, with three runs and two RBIs and the Cyclones’ pitching retired 12-straight batters to preserve the win.

Biondi started early, singling in the opening inning. After stealing second, Jared King’s single to center drove him home.

The Cyclones fell behind when Aberdeen scored one run each in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Biondi came up big in the seventh to take the lead for good with a two-run single to center. Biondi ran home in the same inning off a sac fly from Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste to take the 4–3 lead.

However, it was the pitching that won the game for Brooklyn. After IronBirds’ Connor Bierfeldt homered in the fifth, Aberdeen did not record a single hit the rest of the way.

Four different pitchers had their hand in retiring 12 straight batters — starter Robert “Silent G” Gsellman, Paul Paez, Kevin McGowan, and John Mincone. The four pitchers also combined for 11 strikeouts in the best combined effort of the season.

The Cyclones return home tonight to play the Lowell Spinners.
