McCarren Park Pool fans were treated to a little Southern style as rambunctious Atlanta-based garage punk rock band Black Lips created an atmosphere of chaos on stage, shooting pillow fluff and fire extinguisher residue on stage and executing a guitar solo featuring the band’s pet Chihuahua.
Along with Deerhunter, King Khan and the Shrines, Tall Firs and King Khan, the Black Lips and their comrades worked the crowd into a dancing, bobbing frenzy, encouraging playful mayhem with songs like “Bad Kids,” where they threw dozens of rolls of toilet paper into the crowd which carelessly tossed them into sky.
As all the artists of the day joined the stage for “Bad Kids,” it was clear that while summer may be ending soon, everyone wants to throw one more party at the pool, located on Lorimer Street between Driggs Avenue and Bayard Street.
