Newspapers are dying left and right. Ad revenues are falling like bodies on Oct. 29, 1929. And even the New York Times had to hit up a Mexican industrialist to stay alive.
Sounds like the perfect time for the fourth annual Brooklyn Blogfest. Or is it?
This year’s blogfest comes at a crossroads, given the general media-wide downturn and the recent death of the medium’s “blogfather,” Robert Guskind of the Gowanus Lounge.
“Bob was seriously important in terms of his influence and his readership,” said Blogfest’s creator (and our own Smartmom columnist) Louise Crawford (pictured). “The blogfest comes at a key time because bloggers see that they have a big audience — and now they see that it comes a big responsibility.”
At this key juncture, Crawford said the May 7 blogfest would be less of a back-patting lovefest and more of a work session for bloggers to meet colleagues and discuss what’s working and what isn’t.
