A Sheepshead Bay Car Wash called Z Best may also be Z Noisiest!

The Avenue Z car wash has received four violations for the ear-splitting blowers it uses to dry off soggy vehicles, and now the city is seeking to slap the blowhard who owns the biz with a cease-and-desist order if he doesn’t muffle the blare, said a spokeperson.

The violations, two of which fined the business between Gerald and Kathleen courts for $860, were issued following complaints by nearby residents and Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz (D–Sheepshead Bay).

In one instance, city investigators found the blowers inside the car wash operating at 59 decibels — 17 decibels above the legal limit, said a Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson.

The clattering is deafening and unnerving, claim angry neighbors.

“It sounds like a pistol shot,” said an Avenue Z resident who lives across the street. “My mom is very old, and sometimes she jumps when she hears it.”

The owner, who wouldn’t give his name, said he was working to diffuse the din, but he still has to appear before an administrative law judge next week to prove that, said the spokesperson.

“If he comes in and says I’ve hired XYZ to do ABC, then the judge will probably grant him a few weeks to finish the work,” he said.
