Be afraid. Be
very afraid!
The Prospect Park Alliance’s Halloween Haunted Walk & Carnival
will feature the Headless Horseman and his crew of ghoulish Halloween
companions, such as the werewolf, Count Dracula, the Evil Queen
and Grim Reaper, among others on Saturday, Oct. 26. On the Haunted
Walk (noon-3 pm), vampires, ghosts, warlocks, witches, wizards
and fairies will slip in and out of the fall foliage of Prospect
Park’s Lookout Hill.
Eerie moans and groans will follow costumed youngsters and their
families as they trek cautiously along the Hill’s spooky paths.
They will confront a conjurer, a giant pumpkin, the Evil Queen,
the Magic Mirror and Snow White, as well as earth spirits, talking
body parts and the cat queen, to name a few.
If you haven’t been scared out of your wits yet, head downhill
to the Halloween Carnival on the Park’s Nethermead at the bottom
of Lookout Hill (11:30 am-3:30 pm) for ring toss, roll the dice,
miniature golf, a horse race, soccer kick, croquet, beanbag and
a frisbee and football toss. There will also be face painting,
$1 pony rides, a quilting exhibit and workshop with tutor, crayon
coloring for toddlers, and mask and key chain-making. The Brooklyn
Pageant Project, a local volunteer performance group, will perform,
as will the "Ukulele Lady," Phyllis Capello, telling
stories through music and song.
Also making an appearance will be the "Reading Is Fundamental
(RIF) StoryTraveler" bookmobile. Books will be given away
to children, ages pre-K through grade 6. There will be interactive
storytelling, puppet and illusion shows.
Admission to all events is free. The nearest park entrance to
Lookout Hill is Prospect Park Southwest at 16th Street. The F
train to 15th Street or B68 bus will bring you close. For further
haunting information, call (718) 965-8954.
Then, on Halloween night, dress up in your spooky, kitschy or
satirical costume finest for the 17th Annual Park Slope Halloween
Parade. The parade, sponsored by the Park Slope Civic Council,
starts on Seventh Avenue at 12th Street on Thursday, Oct. 31,
at 7 pm and proceeds up the avenue.
