Booze eyed in Coney accident
The man who rammed into two teenage lovebirds as they made their way to school was reportedly flying high on booze, NYPD officials said this week.
Officials said that suspect Oliver Black, 54, was motoring past the corner of West Avenue and Ocean Parkway just after 9 a.m. on December 10 when he struck Brian Rosario and Elizabeth Lopez as they walked to Lincoln High School.
Friends said that the couple had been dating for six months.
According to published reports, Rosario suffered a broken leg during the accident. Lopez suffered severe head trauma and a broken jaw.
Black remained at the scene and complied with responding officers, who later charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol after he scored a .132 on a Breathalyzer test %u2013 twice the legal limit. He also smelled of booze and slurred as he tried to answer investigators’ questions, police alleged.
Paramedics had to pull the couple apart after the accident. Rosario was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for treatment while Lopez was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, officials said.
Black’s arrest wasn’t his first. According to published reports, he had been arrested on misdemeanor charges 26 times. He was also convicted on a felony drug charge, officials said.
