BAM’s 20th Next
Wave Festival will present singer-songwriter-pianist Ben Folds
as part of its "Next Wave of Song" on Oct. 11 and Oct.
12 at 7:30 pm at the Howard Gilman Opera House (30 Lafayette
Ave. at Ashland Place).
With his trio, Ben Folds Five, Folds first drew attention with
the 1997 platinum album, "Whatever & Ever Amen,"
and its breakout single "Brick." His 2001 solo album
"Rockin’ the Suburbs" garnered additional praise. Folds’
performances from a series of solo tour dates have been captured
on "Ben Folds Live," which is set for release on Oct.
8.
Folds will be joined by Stephin Merritt (leader of Magnetic Fields)
and Ft. Greene resident Marc Anthony Thompson (leader of Chocolate
Genius) in consecutive sets. Tickets are $20, $35 and $45. For
tickets, call (718) 636-4100 or visit their Web site at www.bam.org.
