The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center’s 58th Annual Service Awards ceremony honored 397 employees of the hospital and its Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation who have attained from 10 to 40 years of service.
The program was held in the Sonja and Dr. Alvin I. Kahn Auditorium, One Brooklyn Plaza, with a reception following in the hospital cafeteria.
Leading the list of veteran employees were 40 year veterans Carmelo Crespo, Engineering; Carlo Emilian, Engineering; Verdine Hinds, Medical Records; Louise Puglisi, Chief Telephone Operator; William Steier, MD, director of Hematology/Oncology and the Blood Bank and Saundra Taylor, BFCC, Linden.
Also honored were 17 employees who have served 35 years, 11 for 30 years, 43 for 25 years, 80 for 20 years, 148 for 15 years and 93 for 10 years. Among those honored were Myron Sokal, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and director of Neonatal Medicine, who has dedicated 30 years of his career to Brookdale, and Adel Abadir, chairman of the Department of Anesthesia who has dedicated 35 years to the hospital.
Max Sclair, vice president for Human Resources, chaired the program that included David P. Rosen, Brookdale’s president and CEO; Bruce Flanz, executive vice president and COO; Richard F. Fogler, senior vice president and chief medical officer; Vito Buccellato, vice president for Clinical Services and executive vice president for Long Term Care; and Genevieve Sorensen, vice president for Long Term Care.
“We would not be here without you. Your exemplary dedication and hard work are the backbone of our hospital and for that, we thank you,” said Rosen.
In his remarks, Sclair noted that one of Brookdale’s strengths is its large number of dedicated long-term employees, who have helped build the hospital’s reputation for excellence.
