Borough hockey buffs now have their very own team to root for – the Brooklyn Aces.
The new Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL) Brooklyn team was formally announced during a ceremony at Aviator Sports and Recreation Center at Floyd Bennett Field, attended by EPHL Commissioner Jim Riggs, League President Tim Kolpien and League officials Curtis Russell and Igor Mrotchek.
The team, which will play 25 home games at Aviator as part of the 2008-09 EPHL season beginning in November, will be coached by Chris Firriolo, who is also director of its hockey operations.
Firriolo, most recently, served as general manager and head coach of the Syracuse Stars Junior A Hockey Club of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, which he helped lead to its most successful season last year with a 40-10-6-1 record.
