Confident about your local knowledge? You can test your Brooklyn-specific skills with a spelling bee at the Center for Brooklyn History.

The inaugural event on Tuesday, July 1 will quiz attendees on the spelling of names, streets, avenues, and more in the borough. Words historic and contemporary will be included, so you may want to brush up ahead of time. It will no doubt get tricky. Is it McDonough or MacDonough? It depends on whether you are referring to the 19th or 20th century.

It will be a team competition with prizes; you can bring your own team or join a team that night. The free in-person event takes place at 128 Pierrepont St. from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For more information and to register, visit the event page online.
