Do you love Brooklyn
so much that you could just eat it up? If so, the Heights and
Hill Community Council invites you to salivate over the words
of "The Brooklyn Cookbook" author, Lyn Stallworth,
who will give a talk on Feb. 16 at 2 pm about the borough’s food-filled
legacy.
The Park Slope writer will talk about the history behind recipes
that were born from the borough’s melting pot that was seasoned
by everyone from the Canarsie Indians to the Cambodians.
In her book, Stallworth answers the question, "What is Brooklyn
food?" with "What defines our food is, in short, attitude
and memory."
"The Brooklyn attitude is, ’You respect me, I’ll respect
you; but believe me – my neighborhood, and my food, is best,’
" she writes.
The talk will take place at the Heights and Hill Community Council,
160 Montague St. between Clinton and Henry streets in Brooklyn
Heights, on the third floor. While the talk is free and open
to the public, pre-registration is required as seating is limited.
To register, call Gail Otis at (718) 596-8789.
