Just hours after disgraced Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned his post last Wednesday, Borough President Markowitz kicked off Brooklyn’s restaurant week with a startling revelation to his own wife, Jamie: He has secret trysts at the Downtown Atlantic Restaurant, where baker Fran Sippel dishes up what he can’t have at home.
“She forces cupcakes on me,” said an unapologetic Markowitz in Borough Hall. “She forces them on me.”
And so it was with gusto that the Beep launched the fifth annual “Dine In Brooklyn” week, from March 24–31.
Almost no cuisine or neighborhood is overlooked as diners will have the chance to sample three-course, $23 prix-fixe meals at 189 restaurants all over Kings County, including Fort Greene’s Chez Lola, owned by chef Octavio Simancas (pictured). While the deals don’t begin until March 24, most restaurants are taking reservations now.
Based on the free samples provided by some of the restaurateurs last week, one Borough Hall staffer knew exactly where she would sup: the Chip Shop, which has locations in Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights and Bay Ridge.
“Their mac and cheese is freakin’ ridiculous,” said Faith Fraser, adding, “It’s a good deal — three courses for $23.”
