Brooklyn rugby back on track

Brooklyn rugby is back to winning ways.

Following last week’s devastating loss to Dansbury, the question around Brooklyn and the Metro NY Rugby Union was, how would Brooklyn react? Would the Barons get up and fight again or stumble around searching for their feet? Brooklyn not only got off the mat, but got and got back to the business of fighting for the Division 3 title.

The Brooklyn Barons laid the Hudson Valley Rebels to rest last Saturday with a 12 – 3 A side victory over the Rebels. The Brooklyn Barons clinched of a playoff spot in their inaugural year an unprecedented achievement for a first year club in the Metro NY Rugby Union. The B-side lost 19-0 but looked aggressive against what was virtually the entire Rebel A side.

In winning the match, the Barons showed a key component of a champion, managing to win when they were not at their best or with their full complement of players due injuries and schedule conflicts (these guys do have full-time jobs after all). In preparation for the physical and experienced Hudson Valley backs, the Barons made some changes pulling Matt Loomis and Justin Knight out of the pack and starting them as fly half and outside center respectively. The Pack was boosted by the return of Flanker Pierre LeLeuch.
