Brooklyn Teen leads fight%A0against MHE disease

A Brooklyn teen who is battling a rare disease received a boost from Mayor Michael Bloomberg during a fundraiser for the Bay Ridge youth at the El Caribe Country Club.

Fresh-faced and resplendent in a suit and tie, 14-year-old Vincent Eaton belied all signs of the Multiple Hereditary Exostoses (MHE) which has ruled his life since he was first diagnosed with the debilitating bone disorder as an infant, and which has tested his stamina and resolve with more than a dozen surgeries %u2013 four in the past year alone.

None of that seemed to faze the young man of the hour, who is a sophomore at Xavier High School in Manhattan, as he held court over close to 200 big-hearted supporters, among them, his parents Susan and Craig, and siblings, Christopher 21, and Danielle, 18, who flocked to the catering facility, 5945 Strickland Avenue, for a “Funtasia” fundraiser to cheer on Vincent and help raise money for the MHE Research Foundation.

“Mayor Bloomberg congratulated him on his energy and told him to be strong and keep going,” said Vincent’s mom, adding, “He’s my strength, he doesn’t complain and he takes things in stride.”

The evening also served to bestow honors on Vincent’s supporters, among then State Senator Marty Golden and Dr. John Dormans, an MHE expert at the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.
