Brooklynites enjoy the great outdoors at Floyd Bennett Field

Brooklynites flocked to the Aviator Sports Complex at Floyd Bennett Field on Sunday for the annual Summer Fun Day, which featured nearly every outdoor activity under the sun.

The event, co-hosted by the National Park Service and the recreation group Outdoor Nation, was all about giving people the chance to learn new sports and revisit old favorites. Instructors were on hand to teach locals how to rock climb and sail, while hula hoops and hopscotch courts were available for anyone who wanted to play an old pastime.

There were also camping demos, as Floyd Bennett Field is set to transform into the nation’s biggest urban campground. More than 50 camp spots will be added this summer, though about 600 are planned for the near future.
