BUSINEESS BROOKLYN STYLE – Accessorize with Something Else

No matter how stunning, your outfit isn’t standing out until it’s jazzed up by the perfect accessory, be it a scarf, small pin, or a complementary pair of earrings.

Borough shoppers looking for that perfect splash of excitement and style should look no further than Something Else’s Accessory Department at their store at 2051 86th Street between 20th and 21st avenues, where one can find salvation for one’s flagging fashion sense as well as an ideal gift for a friend or loved one.

While the Something Else clothing store chain has been outfitting Brooklynites in their home base in Bensonhurst, or their satellite stores in downtown Brooklyn, the special Accessory Department is exclusively located in their Bensonhurst store.

Partners Gabrielle Mendola and Lauren Prestigiacomo designed the accessory department with the stylish and thrifty shopper in mind.

“I’ve always worked in fashion in Manhattan,” Mendola said. “I just wanted to bring a little bit of the city’s fashion sense to Brooklyn at a lower price.”

Mendola grew up across the street from the Something Else store on 86th Street.

When she brought the prospect of adding an accessory department where shoppers could buy scarves, jewelry, belts, handbags and makeup to go with the clothes and shoes they just bought at the store, the owner jumped at the chance.

Their union has been fashionably fruitful and successful – so much so that the accessory department has just recently celebrated its second anniversary in the store.

The accessory department has also become the largest retailer of Juicy accessories in the borough, where lovers of the Juicy line can find everything from handbags from cold weather wear to diaper bags.

Hey, even new moms should be on the front line of fashion!

Mendola said some of the handbags she sells have also been distributed to the other Something Else stores in the borough, meaning that residents in every neighborhood they cater to can find an inexpensive accoutrement that can turn their clothes something they can find on the Fashion Week runway.

The Accessory Department is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Anyone wishing to learn more can contact the accessory department through the store at (718) 372-1900.
