A bystander was shot in the leg near City Point Mall in Downtown Brooklyn on Monday afternoon.

Shots rang out on the busy shopping street near 445 Albee Square shortly after 2 p.m, police said. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was struck in the lower leg in the chaos.

When officers arrived on the scene, the woman was conscious and alert, per the NYPD. She was taken by ambulance to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Park Slope, where she was in stable condition.

Cops later said that, according to a review of the surveillance footage, it appeared that two groups were fighting on the sidewalk outside the mall when one perp pulled out a gun and began firing. The victim was not involved in the argument, and was reported to be the only person who was injured.

The gunman fled the scene and has yet to be arrested, cops said. An investigation is ongoing. The incident took place just blocks from the 84th Precinct stationhouse on Gold Street.

“Scary incident in Downtown Brooklyn this afternoon,” said local Council Member Lincoln Restler on X. “Young adults had a fight & there were gunshots. A bystander on Albee Sq West was shot, but fortunately she did not suffer life threatening injuries. We are in touch with precinct and will push for steady NYPD presence in area.”

Monday’s incident was the first shooting in the 84th Precinct this year, per NYPD statistics. Only a handful of shootings were reported in the precinct in 2025, data show. So far this year, shootings across the borough are down significantly — though they spiked last month in comparison to February 2025.
