Can-you-dig-it! Warriors return to coney island

The Warriors finally did what Luther and the Rogues wanted them to do for 30 years: they came out to play.

Swan (Michael Beck), Cleon (Dorsey Wright), Snow (Brian Tyler), Fox (Thomas G Waites) and Vermin (Terry Michos) all returned to their Coney Island hangout to meet with longtime fans and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the cult classic film.

A sold-out crowd was on hand to see the movie, some for the 50th time, about the Warrior’s night-long struggle to get from the Bronx to Brooklyn after they’re blamed for assassinating the leader of a gang summit.

Beck and his gang of fellow actors spent the August 29 celebration at the Sideshows by the Seashore Theater, 1208 Surf Avenue, where they greeted fans, took photos with teens in Warriors vests, signed autographs and held a cast discussion after the film ended.

Coney Island USA, which puts on cultural arts events in Coney Island, has played “The Warriors” at their annual Coney Island Film Festival for the last five years.

“Each time it sells out with avid fans reciting lines, clanging bottles,” explained Coney Island USA member Rob Leddy. “It’s really quite the spectacle.”
