A Canarsie man was arrested on Monday night for allegedly stabbing his 70-year-old neighbor to death.

The victim, Fredrick Howard, was allegedly brutally attacked by 31-year-old Josny Jean inside the multi-family East 87th Street home where both men resided in the early hours of Sept. 8, police said. Howard was brought by private means to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center with multiple stab wounds to the chest, and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police were called to Brookdale after Howard arrived and determined that the incident had taken place at his home. Both Howard and Jean lived at the multi-family residence, though it was unclear if they lived in the same unit.

The pair had been reportedly been engaged in an ongoing dispute, the cause of which was not clear.

Jean was arrested at about 11 p.m. on Monday, per the NYPD. An investigation is ongoing.

So far this year, murder is up by 33% in Canarsie’s 69th Precinct, according to the latest NYPD statistics, and five people had been killed in the precinct as of Sept. 7. Brooklyn has seen a number of violent but unrelated stabbing incidents in recent days — a Sept. 5 stabbing left one person dead and another wounded in East New York, and officers on Sept. 7 shot and killed a man who allegedly slashed a police officer across the face in Brownsville.
