Candidates cross paths on way to Council

Glowing self−appraisals flowed like wine when contenders vying for the 39th Council district seat pledged their case to the people during a candidates forum at the Metropolitan Jewish Geriatric Center.

Aa the mercury soared to 90 degrees outside, candidates running for the seat, currently held by Councilmember Bill DeBlasio, found themselves hot under the collar as they faced a tough line of questions from residents of the district, which includes Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens and Columbia Street in addition to Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington and Borough Park.

The candidates were: Craig Hammerman, district manager, Community Board 6; John Heyer, assistant to Borough President Marty Markowitz; Brad Lander, director, Pratt Center for Community Development; Gary Reilly, attorney; Josh Skaller, director of Information Technology, GlobalWorks Group; and Bob Zuckerman, executive director, Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation and Gowanus Canal Conservancy.

The forum allowed candidates to discuss their visions and plans for the district, including how to handle important city issues.
