Greenpoint continues to be the Mayberry of Brooklyn, with crime rates remaining low, according to Capt. Paul Vorbeck, commanding officer of the 94th Precinct, which encompasses the neighborhood.
Vorbeck told The Brooklyn Paper that crime levels remain “flat,” though there has been a slight spike in stolen cars, with seven cars stolen in the week ending Oct. 21.
There’s also been a 15 percent increase in burglaries so far this year, compared to the same period in 2006, said Vorbeck. Most of the crimes have been concentrated in the southern part of the precinct, bounded by Metropolitan Avenue, North 12th Street and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
As per his own policy with the media, Vorbeck does not release the details of those burglaries or the details of any other unsolved cases — a common practice at other precincts. But he did release the details of the three arrests in this week’s Police Blotter.
