A quiet afternoon on Brighton Beach Avenue near Brighton 6th Street was shattered with the sound of exploding wood, brick and glass last week as a wayward motorist slammed through the front of a neighborhood photography store. Officials were told that the elderly driver got behind the wheel at 1:30 p.m. on October 8 and somehow mistook the driving gear for the reverse gear. When he hit the gas, he reportedly hopped the curb and backed up right into the store. A woman inside the store was hit by flying glass, but no other injuries were reported, officials said.
