Last summer, “The Dark Knight” was a big hit in theaters, but Brooklyn has the real thing. So put away your faded “Batman” comics and venture onto one of Prospect Park’s bat tours over the next three Tuesday nights.
Yes, bats are scary, but that’s what makes the tour such a great date night, said Eugene Patron, spokesman for the Prospect Park Alliance.
“You’ll see a young guy holding a young girl who’s a little scared,” he said.
The bats are not always easy to find, so tour guide Paul Keim tends to have to use his bat magnet. It’s not a flashlight — that would scare them away — but some kind of sonar device that clicks whenever bats are near.
Don’t worry about bites or attacks, Keim said. The bats are completely harmless. And better than that, instead of biting us, they’re chomping down on lots of nasty bugs.
So for one night, forget everything you thought you knew about bats and head out to Prospect Park. You can even ask Keim about the bat in his freezer…
