St. John’s Bread & Life, Brooklyn’s largest and likely the nation’s most high−tech soup kitchen, is celebrating “Christmas in August” by hosting a baseball outing to raise funds for its annual holiday program, Sponsor−A−Family.
Attendees will watch the Brooklyn Cyclones take on the Jamestown Jammers at Brooklyn’s historic Keyspan Park, 1904 Surf Avenue in Coney Island, August 7, with a picnic on the party deck at 5:30 p.m., game time at 7 p.m., and post−game fireworks.
Sponsor−A−Family provides needy families with more than 2,000 holiday food packages and 4,500 new, unwrapped toys. The program lets families in a number of Brooklyn and Queens communities enjoy a meal and gifts in their own homes, regardless of their economic status.
Tickets to “Christmas in August” are $125 per person (includes entrance and picnic) and $400 for a family pass for two adults and children under 15. For tickets, call Dorothy Kellogg at 718−574−0058 extension 145, or purchase them online at www.breadandlife.org.
