It was quite a quick turnaround in a touch situation for Bishop Ford. The Falcons were blown away by Amanda Burakoski and Mary Louis on Tuesday and two days later had to visit defending CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens champion Archbishop Molloy, which looked to be hitting its stride.
But Bishop Ford would leave Briarwood with one of its best wins of the season topping Molloy, 64-53, on Thursday night behind 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals from junior forward Shayra Brown. The loss ends a four-game winning streak for the Stanners.
“This is the kind of team we are,” Falcons coach John LoSasso said. “It depends on the match-ups because of our youth and inexperience. This was a good win for us.”
It was a victory that also featured one of sophomore point guard Anjali Moncrieffe’s best performances of the season for Bishop Ford (6-6, 1-2 CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens). She scored a season-high 19 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. Vanessa D’Ambrosi added 10 points and eight rebounds. Marielle Duryea led Molloy (7-5, 1-2) with 15 points and Nicole Marciniak added 13.
Bishop Ford trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, led by five at the half and took a 38-32 lead into the fourth. The Falcons connected on 25-of-35 free throws to help hold off the Stanners in the fourth.
“We made critical shots and key free throws,” LoSasso said. “When you are ahead you play more relaxed.”
