The Belt Parkway bike and foot path is back on track.
The city’s Department of Transportation will shift a section of the pedestrian and bicycle path on the Belt Parkway near the Mill Basin Bridge onto its permanent position on Aug. 22.
A system of barriers and signs will guide those using the path so it juts out to the exit ramp leading towards the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy.
The permanent new path will be open and accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, but it is not yet fully completed, according to the department’s community liaison Amy Zhou.
The department initially shifted the original bike and foot path from the eastern border of the road – like the new path – to a temporary path in the center in early December 2017.
All vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic was shifted onto the new Mill Basin Bridge that month as the old bridge was closed down and set for demolition.
The department did not respond by press time to give a deadline for when the new bike and foot path will be completed.
