Clones break losing streak with win over Yanks

Cyclones 2
Staten Island 1

July 3 at MCU Park (10 innings)

Cyclones’ first baseman Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste’s sacrifice fly in the 10th scored outfielder Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi to get the boys first win over the hated Staten Island Yankees and break the Brooks four-game losing streak.

The Cylcones got on the board first, scoring a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. But the Yankees tied it up in the next frame on a run-scoring ground out

Carlos “Oil-Can” Valdez and Akeel “The Cat” Morris combined to shut down the Yanks, giving up just the four hits and two walks, and striking out 10.

In the 10th, Biondi walked, Juan Gamboa doubled down the third base line and L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli walked to load the bases. With only one gone, Oberste sent a ball into short center field. As soon as the catch was made, the speedy Biondi took off for home.

Manager Rich Donnelly said Biondi was the only player he wanted on third at the time.

“He’s probably the only guy I would have sent,” Donnelly said. “He’s one of the fastest guys in the league.”

The Cyclones head to Aberdeen tonight where the team will look to blast the Ironbirds, starting at 7:05.
