Hudson Valley 4
Cyclones 2
August 5 at Hudson Valley
The Cyclones bats were held in check in a 4–2 loss at Hudson Valley on Friday night.
Justin Dunn pitched three scoreless innings for Brooklyn, but the Renegades got on the board against Adam Atkins in the fourth.
Atkins had trouble locating the zone, walking Jim Haley and Nathaniel Lowe to put runners on with one out. Jonathan Popadics made him pay for the msicues, with a run-scoring single to center. Atkins then walked Chris Betts to load the bases, before recovering ot strike out Bill Pujols for the second out.
Clones skipper Tom Gamboa called on Gabriel Feliz to get the third out of the inning. Feliz answered the call, forcing Landon Cray to ground out to second to end the inning.
Hudson Valley got to Feliz in the fifth. Jake Fraley led off with a triple and scored on Garrett Whitley’s double. With one out, Whitley moved to third on a wild pitch. Jim Haley hit a grounder to short, but a fielding error by the usually reliable Colby Woodmansee allowed Whitley to score. The Renegades padded the lead as Lowe cracked a double and scored on a single from Popadics to give Hudson Valley a four-run cushion.
Renegades starter Noel Rodriguez pitched six shutout innings of one-hit ball. Pete Alonso’s single in the second was the only hit Rodriguez surrendered.
The Cyclones got on the board against J.D. Busfield Jr. in the eighth. Gene Cone led off with a walk, moved to third on a Brandon Brosher double and – after a Blake Tiberi strikeout – scored on an Ali Sanchez groundout. Busfield Jr. got Jay Jabs to fly out to end the inning.
Jacob Zannon led off the Brooklyn ninth with a double – facing off against Hudson Valley reliever Jose Alonzo – moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Michael Paez groundout. Pete Alonso doubled with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate, but Alonzo struck out Gene Cone to end the game.
