Clones hurl a one hitter!

Cyclones 2
Spinners 0

The Cyclones made a triumphant return from the New York-Penn League All-Star break, thanks to a one-hitter by starter Scott Shaw and a nine-hit barrage that led to two runs.

Shaw got his fifth win of the season with six-and-two-thirds innings of impeccable pitching, giving up just a single in the second inning and striking out 10 Spinners.

Relievers Roy Merritt and closer Steve Clyne gave up nothing, striking out five in the game’s last seven outs.

The score was even until Josh Satin’s third homer of the year in the fifth, a blast that provided the margin of victory. Satin added an insurance run on a double in the seventh.

Alas, the Staten Island Yankees won for the eighth straight time, keeping the Cyclones five games back of the division leaders. But the win kept the Cyclones just two games back in the race for the long wild-card berth with just 16 games left to play.
