Williamsport 8
Cyclones 6
July 31 at Williamsport
The Cyclones fell behind by as many as six runs Wednesday and a comeback attempt in the last two innings fell just short as the Crosscutters handed Brooklyn its second straight loss.
Jared King started the game’s scoring in the second inning when he led off with a double to center field. Alex Sanchez then hit a sac fly to allow King to make it home.
But Williamsport would go on to score the next seven runs during the following three innings. The majority of the damage came on Zach Green’s three-run homer in the third. Samuel Hiciano added another solo home run in the fourth.
After enduring the Crosscutter barrage, Cyclones’ catcher Tomas Nido hit a two-run homer in the fifth that allowed him and Sanchez to score. Brooklyn gave up another run in the seventh, but scored three more in the last two innings on RBIs by Nido and Gavin Cecchini and an unearned run by L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli, who scored on a fielding error.
The Cyclones’ pitching, which has been a strong suit through the last two weeks, gave up eight runs on 11 hits. The Crosscutters scored four runs each off starter Dario Alvarez and reliever Dawrin Frias.
The Boys of Summer look to rebound and avoid the sweep tonight at 7:05 pm.
