Gonzalez’s leadership during a late season controversy solidified him as our candidate for coach of the year. But it is his on-the-field guidance that has been the key in Lincoln’s success. In only his second season as the ‘Splitters’ skipper, Gonzalez has turned this program around from an 8-9 finish and a game under the .500 to a 15-2 season and a co-share of the division title. Speaking of the controversy, Gonzalez handled the “chin strap” incident with class and dignity, which he had passed on to a roster that carried a bulk of upper classman that fed off of his attitude on and off the diamond.
