You gotta hand it to Stephen Colbert — he found a way to turn The Brooklyn Paper’s famed “Graffiti girl” into a notorious villain.
Tuesday night’s “Colbert Report” featured a segment on Natalie Shea, the 10th Street 6-year-old who got a warning letter from the city this fall after drawing on her front stoop with common sidewalk chalk.
Common? Not to Colbert.
“Natalie is a calcium sulfate junkie,” the “anchorman” said.
The segment recounted a story well known to readers of The Brooklyn Paper, namely how Natalie fought the law after a neighbor ratted her out to 311.
But it never let the girl off the hook.
“Like all junkies, she’s ruining the neighborhood,” Colbert said.
The hilarious segment ended up blaming Natalie for everything from the decline in property values, the sub-prime mortgage crisis and, apparently, Spike Lee’s decision to throw a garbage can through the window of Sal’s Pizza at the end of his classic film, “Do the Right Thing.”
And, of course, The Brooklyn Paper made a cameo appearance.
