Brooklyn resident Nathaniel Howard, a senior specialist in Con Edison’s gas engineering department, received Con Edison’s highest honor, the company’s “Living Our Values” award, during a gala held by the 73 year−old utility company.
This recognition is given annually to Con Edison men and women who exemplify the company’s values of service, teamwork, excellence, and concern for the quality of life in the community.
“Nathaniel is a dedicated, intelligent and compassionate employee who goes the ‘extra mile’ every day in his job,” says Claude Trahan, senior vice president of gas operations.
Howard joined the company in 1976 as a training representative in the specialized training department, which later became part of the centralized Vernon Training Center, in Long Island City, which is now Con Edison’s Learning Center. Howard also held positions in the Employee Relations department as well as training positions at the company’s Learning Center facility.
Howard lives with his wife, Debra, also a Con Edison employee, and daughter, Mia, in East Flatbush, where his involved nature is expressed outside of work as well. Howard is an active member of Bridge Street A.M.E. Church, where he serves as treasurer of the Senior Board of Stewards. He received his degree in Mathematics from South Carolina State University.
Howard was recently voted president of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association and is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE). His hobbies include traveling, photography and working with various civic organizations.
“He is successful in making every team member feel involved and always acknowledges the accomplishments of others,” Trahan added.
