CONEY ART

On July 24 at 3 pm, the Coney Island Museum
will host an artist’s reception for "Philomena Marano: (still)
Under the Influence."

The exhibit features Marano’s cut paper works, from 1981 to the
present, that are inspired by the neighborhood’s amusements.
Among the works on display is 2004’s "Wonder Wheel World
Swing Low" (at left).

The reception is followed by an "Ask the Expert" lecture
at 5 pm, where Marano will discuss her life and work, which includes
co-founding the Coney Island Hysterical Society with artist Richard
Eagan, in an effort to minimize Coney Island’s decline.

The Coney Island Museum is located at 1208 Surf Ave. at 12th
Street, second floor. The reception is free and the lecture is
$5. The exhibit will continue through Oct. 9. Museum hours are
Friday through Sunday, from noon to 5 pm, in July and August,
and Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 5 pm, in September and
October. For more information, call (718) 372-5159 or visit www.philo-mania.com
