They were very sorry for what they did – just not sorry enough.
Cops are looking for two apologetic thieves who mugged a 25-year-old woman at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Adelphi Street, showing a concern and compassion usually not seen in common street thugs.
Police from the 88th Precinct were told that the young woman was on her way home just before 10 p.m. on May 21 when the thieves, described as black males in their 20s, grabbed her from behind.
One of the suspects put his hand over her mouth and dragged her to the ground.
The woman said that when she cut her hand on one of the knives the thieves was carrying as she was being brought to the ground, she screamed, and the thieves went into apology mode.
“I’m sorry,” one of the thieves said before taking the young woman’s messenger bag.
The thief then began to unzipping the woman’s jacket, but not before he assured her that he wasn’t going to take advantage of her.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to touch you,” the thief said as he rifled through her interior pockets and palmed her cell phone and iPod.
The thieves then left the woman, who felt confident enough by the thief’s demeanor to ask for her keys back.
But the goons’ graciousness only went so far, police were told.
“F—k you,” one of the thugs screamed before the two men ran off with the woman’s property.
Cops from the 88th Precinct said that they were actively looking for the two men, who are both believed to be about 5’10” and 190 pounds.
According to NYPD statistics, robberies are up in both Fort Greene and Clinton Hill – by 14 percent as of May 18.
Officials said that in 2007, 77 robberies had taken in place in the 88th Precinct. This year, 88 robberies have occurred as of May 18.
Overall felony crime has dropped by seven percent for the year, statistics show.
