The vicious sex assault on a 60-year-old Orthodox woman on Tuesday may have been part of an elaborate identity theft scam, police say.
One of the thugs who conned his way into the Nostrand Avenue auto-leasing office between Burnett Street and Madison Place removed several boxes of files that may have contained client information while his partner restrained and sexually assaulted their victim, according to cops — details one would need to apply for credit cards in someone else’s name.
The victim told police that she had just opened for business when one of the suspects knocked on the front door at 9:20 am.
The suspect claimed that he had to collect some documents from the woman’s boss as she let him in, police say. Moments later, his accomplice came to the door.
The victim let the second man inside — and her nightmare began.
One of the men put the 60-year-old in a choke hold while his accomplice grabbed a box of files and brought them to an awaiting car — then came back to grab two more boxes.
The fiends then dragged the victim into a back bathroom, where he sexually assault her, police said.
Cops were called to the rental office moments after the thieves left. Paramedics rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Investigators are uncertain what exactly was in the stolen files, although its believed that the boxes held customer names, addresses, and credit card information, a police source said.
