Sun, bah!
A thief raided Brooklyn Bridge Park and made off with a valuable solar equipment earlier this year.
The crook snatched the costly power-generating materials from the playground on Pier 5 at 12:01 am on Jan. 6, and park officials reported the theft to police on Feb. 19, according to investigators.
Hair careless
A 20-year-old woman tried to bite and scratch her way out of an arrest when retailers caught her shoplifting hair accessories from a department store on Court Street on Feb. 22, police claim.
Workers at the store near Atlantic Avenue told police the woman came in at 12:21 pm and put the accessories in her purse. As the woman tried to escape the store, she bit and scratched one employee who tried to stop her and scratched and hit another, cops reported.
Polished off
A sneaky thief stole a wallet from a woman’s handbag while she was sitting at a nail salon on Atlantic Avenue on Feb. 21.
The woman told police she was at the salon near Smith Street at 5 pm getting her nails done. When she finished and picked up her unzipped bag, she found her driver’s license, two debit cards, two credit cards, and $300 in cash gone.
Ups and downs
Someone tried to rob a woman as she exited an apartment building elevator on Sands Street on Feb. 22, police said.
The victim said she was walking out of the elevator on the 11th floor of the apartment complex between Gold and Navy streets at 12:05 am when the suspect tried to remove her cellphone and money by punching her in the face.
Bag grab
A 47-year-old woman snatched another woman’s purse in the elevator of a department store at Fulton Street on Feb. 22, police said.
The victim told police she was shopping at the store near Hoyt Street at 2:50 pm when the suspect grabbed her bag. The victim struggled to get it back until the suspect was subdued, cops said.
Hidden gym fee
Someone stole a credit card number from a man while he was exercising at a gym on Atlantic Avenue on Feb. 21, police said.
The victim was at the gym near Court Street at 7:45 pm when he noticed his card and $40 were missing. Police say the thief racked up $340 in purchases after stealing the card.
Hungry for cash
An armed assailant robbed a sandwich shop in MetroTech Center on Feb. 23, police said.
Employees at the business near Willoughyby Street say a man walked up to the cash register attendant with a knife in his hand at 4:15 pm.
“I’m going to kill you and I got a gun in my left pocket as well,” the perpetrator said.
After taking $370, the man fled toward Willoughby Street, police said.
Lexus looter
A car crook drove off in a 2006 Lexus sports utility vehicle parked on Fourth Avenue on Feb. 22.
The owner returned to the car between Bergen Street and St. Marks Place at 7:15 pm only to find it missing.
Probation violation
Someone stole a woman’s wallet and phone from a desk at a probation office on Jay Street on Feb. 20, police said.
The victim said she noticed her wallet missing from the office, located near Johnson Street, at 11:30 am. Police found that her credit card was used to make a purchase at Crown Fried Chicken.
Boots made for chasing
An opportune thief swiped $30 and a Coach wristlet from a woman at a Fulton Street department store on Feb. 20.
The victim said she was trying on shoes at the store near Hoyt Street at 12:45 pm when her belongings went missing.
Ordering take-out
A purse snatcher took off with a woman’s bag from a restaurant on Willoughby Street on Feb. 18.
The victim said she left her purse — which contained an iPod, car keys, $22, credit cards, a phone charger, Social Security cards, and a health insurance card — alone for 20 minutes in the restaurant between Bridge and Lawrence streets at 2 pm. Security camera footage shows a man walking out of the restaurant with the bag in his jacket hood.
Tough economy
A scheming trickster entered a Willoughby Street dry cleaning business, asked if they were hiring, and then returned later to rob the business on Feb. 20, police said.
Employees at the business near Jay Street say the suspect entered the store once and then pretended to have a weapon in his pocket when he came back at noon.
“Open the register and give me the money,” he said, proceeding to take $100 dollars and flee in an unknown direction.
Lock shock
An intruder broke into an apartment on Albee Square on Feb. 19 — but left empty-handed.
Police say the trespasser damaged a lock at the apartment, located near Willoughby Street, but took no property during the break-in, which police estimate occurred at 10:30 am.
