Four local educators were honored for their commitment to the Homecrest community during an awards dinner, presented by the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC).

The accolades were part of the not-for-profit organization’s 10th anniversary celebration, held at New Star Seafood Restaurant, 1217 Avenue U, to laud Public School 153 for hosting its local after-school program.

The honorees were: Carl Santa Maria, principal; Steffani Fanizzi, assistant principal; and staff members Yolanda Suarez and Dora Dekhanova.

The CPC was established in 1965, and offers a wide range of local services for children and adults, including home care and work development in addition to coordinating the program at Public School 153, 1970 Homecrest Avenue, and Beacon after-school programs at Intermediate School 220, 4812 9th Avenue; and Public School 503/506, 345, 43rd Street.
