The Cardiac Cyclones played another one-run game, this time beating the Tigers 2–1 to avoid the series sweep on Friday night in Connecticut.
Brooklyn got on the board in the third with a two-out rally. Colby Woodmansee connected on a single to center field and Ali Sanchez followed with a double. Jacob Zanon singled to left scoring both runners and giving the Cyclones a 2–0 lead.
Cyclones starter Merandy Gonzalez cruised through the first five innings, allowing only two singles and a walk. Gonzalez fanned the first two batters in the sixth before the Tigers came alive. He gave up a single to Sam Machonis and a double to Joey Havrilak to put runners at second and third.
With Blaise Salter at the plate, Gonzalez uncorked a wild pitch, as Machonis scored to cut the lead in half. Salter worked a walk to put runners at first and second., but Gonzalez struck out Tanner Donnels to end the threat.
Gonzalez struck out eight Tigers in six innings, giving up four hits, two walks.
Bryce Beeler came in for a three-inning save and retired all nine batters he faced, including four strikeouts.
The 3–5 Cyclones return to MCU Park on Saturday for a 6 pm game against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
UPS AND DOWNS
Only eight games into the season, Brooklyn is already 2–4 in one-run games.
The Cyclones 1–7 hitters all had one hit apiece in Friday’s win.
Colby Woodmansee is hitting .357 after Friday’s game.
