Cyclones bats go silent in 1–0 loss

Williamsport’s Logan Pierce scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning as the Cyclones couldn’t get the offense going and the team’s five-game winning streak came to an end.

Pierce doubled to lead off the fourth inning for the Crosscutters, followed by a single by Jiandido Tromp to send Pierce to third. Finally, Sam Dove grounded into a double play that scored the game’s only run.

The Cyclones threatened in the top of the ninth when Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi singled, and subsequently stole both second and third to get in scoring position. But Gavin Cecchini struck out in between Biondi’s base stealing and L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli and Jared King both went down swinging to snap the Brooklyn’s longest win streak of the season.

Cyclones’ starting pitcher Seth Lugo struck out nine batters in five effective innings and Christian Chivilli, Paul Paez, and David Wynn combined to pitch three hitless innings.

The loss drops the Cyclones one game under .500 at 20–21, but are still just three games back of the McNamara division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades.

In other good news, the hated Staten Island Yankees are in last place with a horrrendous 17–24 record.

The Cyclones will play the Crosscutters again tonight at 7:05 pm.
