It was a Dar-loss!
Cyclones starting pitcher Darwin “Chuck” Ramos coughed up five runs in four-and-a-third innings and the Cyclones bats failed to show up until it was too late in a loss to the Lake Monsters.
The Monsters wasted little time before teeing off on Ramos, as Roger Gonzalez’s two-out triple in the first scored Mike Martin and Jordan Devencenzi to make it 2–0.
Ramos settled down until the fifth when a single by Jermeiah McCray scored Jesus Lage from third and a throwing error by Reed Gamache advanced McCray to second. After Javier Godard walked, Kurtis Horne relieved Ramos and uncorked a wild pitch to advance the runners, Martin then singled to right to score both McCray and Godard, putting the Clones in a 5–0 hole.
The Clones’ bats finally awoke in the sixth inning when Franklin Correa singled to right. After Ian Strom walked and Cecilio Aybar reached first base on a fielding error, Walter Rasquin hit into a double play with the bases loaded, but it scored Correa. Leon Byrd Jr. then singled to right to score Strom to make the score 5–2.
The Cyclones refused to lie down in the ninth. After consecutive singles by Gamache and Jose Miguel Medina, Jose Maria singled to right, scoring Gamache and sending Medina to third. After Correa struck out, Strom hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Medina. Unfortunately, Jeremy Wolf struck out to end the game with Lake Monsters 5–4.
The loss drops the Cyclones to 2–2 and puts them in a three-way tie for second place in their division between them, the Ironbirds, and the Renegades and one game behind the hated Staten Island Yankees, who beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 8–6.
The Cyclones will be back at home to face the Hudson Valley Renegades tonight at 6 pm. The Cyclones will be holding Girl Scout Night and will have a fireworks display after the game.
