Cyclones mop MCU Park with Lake Monsters

Cyclones 7

Vermont 2

July 24 at MCU Park

The Cyclones’ success at home continued on Thursday as Scarlyn Reyes pitched perfectly into the fourth inning and the Clones picked up another win at home.

The Cyclones struck early in the first when Jhoan Urena plated Amed Rosario, who reached on a throwing error. A home run by Michael Bernal in the second added to the Mini-Mets lead. Bernal went two–for–four. A third run was tacked on in the third when Urena brought Rosario home for the second time after Rosario hit a triple.

Scarlyn Reyes gave up only two runs on three hits through five innings, and the only Lake Monsters damage came in the form of a two-run homer in the fifth.

The bottom of the seventh saw four more Cyclones runs when Tomas Nido drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a Bernal single. Wil Fulmer hit a sacrifice fly that plated Nido. Aggressive base running allowed Adrien Abreu to score on a pick-off attempt on Urena.

The Cyclones take on the Lake Monster again tonight at 7 pm during Italian Heritage Night at MCU Park.

Ups and downs

Ur hot again

Third baseman Jhoan Urena is hot once again. He has nearly re-achieved his previous 13-game hit streak, having connected in the past 10 games straight. He is one of three Cyclones to have two 10-game hit streaks in a season.

Coming up Roses

Shortstop Amed Rosario also has a hit streak going. The 18-year-old currently has a batting average of .395 and has hit safely in nine straight games.

The runs keep coming

The Clones have scored 41 runs in their last seven games. They have also scored five or more runs in six of these seven games, a dramatic turnaround from the eight-game losing streak they snapped last week.
