Cyclones open tonight against the hated Yankees!

The 2010 Brooklyn Cyclones have the right spirit: They HATE the Staten Island Yankees — as our exclusive video with stars Cory Vaughn and Rylan Sandoval shows.

And the timing of that disgust is perfect, given that the Class A mini-Mets will open their 10th season with a road game against the hated Baby Bombers tonight.

The home opener in Coney Island’s newly named MCU Park will be Saturday night, and the capper of the three-game series will be back on the Rock on Sunday.

With these games, the Cyclones begin their quest for the second New York-Penn League title — and their first trip to the league finals since 2007. The Clones have been in the playoffs all but three of the nine previous seasons, but haven’t “won it all” since 2001.

This year, the Cyclones will be managed by Wally Backman — yes, that Wally Backman — whose job is to improve upon last season’s 45-30 record and wild card appearance in the playoffs.

Beyond baseball, the team has announced a few promotional dates this summer to make note of, including “T-Shirt Tuesdays,” when the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a free limited-edition shirt, and “Jersday Thursdays,” when fans will be given Cyclones jerseys of their own. Adding to the excitement, baseball fans young and old will be able to trot around the bases after every Thursday home game, and every Saturday home game will be followed by a post-game fireworks show. Fans will be hoping for a season that’s equally on fire.
