The Cyclones blasted four homers in an offense-filled day, scoring the most runs in a game this season to sweep Vermont on Sunday.

The Clones started early, scoring three runs in the opening inning off an RBI walk by James “Papa” Roche with bases loaded, an RBI single by Alex Sanchez, and a run off a fielder’s choice ground out by Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste.

Vermont cut the lead to 3–2 in the second, but the big Cyclones’ bats answered in the third, when Jared King and Sanchez hit back-to-back solo home runs to increase the lead to 5–2. King’s homer was his first of the year, while Sanchez notched his fourth.

In the seventh, with the Clones leading 7–4 thanks to fourth and sixth inning RBIs by King and Roche, Oberste tripled to right, Jonathan Clark walked and Ismael Tijerina hit an RBI single to drive in Oberste. L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli then launched his third dinger of the year over the left field wall to take the commanding 11–4 lead.

Roche put the cherry on top by leading off the eighth inning with his team-leading fifth homer of the season to score the final run for the Cyclones.

Despite the convincing sweep of the Lake Monsters, Aberdeen still managed to keep the Clones half a game back of the division lead with a win of its own.

The Clones return to MCU Park to take on the hot Tri-City Valley Cats, who have won five in a row, for a three game series, starting tonight at 7 pm.
