Cyclones win the rubber game

Cyclones 2
Muckdogs 1

Aug. 11, at Keyspan Park

Both Pedro Martinezes in the Mets organization had similar lines on Monday — but the difference is that the Cyclones have a Big League bullpen and the Mets’ pen is strictly Class A.

The Cyclones’ Martinez gave up just one run and five hits — and struck out eight — in five solid innings that led to a much-needed Cyclone win, while the Mets’ starter went six innings and gave up only one run on three hits, yet watched helpless as the bullpen gave away the game.

In Coney Island, the Brooks got on the board first, thanks to a double by Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who later scored on a wild pitch. Jordan Abruzzo also hit a double, and scored on a Reese Havens single.

After the Muckdogs got a run on a groundout, that was the end of the scoring, thanks to Cyclone relievers Jimmy Johnson (3-2/3 innings of no-hit, six-strikeout ball) and closer Yury Santana, who picked up his team-leading 10th save.

The win kept the Cyclones three games back of the hated Yankees.
