Din Tai Fung, the popular Taiwanese restaurant known for its soup dumplings, will expand to Brooklyn in 2027.

The Michelin-starred eatery will occupy 20,000 square feet on the ground floor of The Brook, a new luxury residential tower at 567 Fulton St. in Downtown Brooklyn. The opening will mark the global brand’s second New York City location, following its Midtown Manhattan restaurant, which opened in 2024.

Din Tai Fung announced the news this week on its U.S. Instagram account, teasing, “Guess who’s coming to dinner, Brooklyn?” The post added, “From delicate soup dumplings to classic Taiwanese dishes steeped in tradition, something extraordinary is coming to the borough.”

The history of Din Tai Fung dates back to 1958, when founder Bing-Yi Yang opened a cooking oil store with the same name. When sales started to decline, Yang and his wife began making Xiao Long Bao — soup dumplings that became a worldwide sensation.

Today, the chain operates locations in Asia, North America, Australia and Europe, with 17 locations across the United States.

The Brook, which began leasing in July, stands 52 stories tall with 591 residential units and 21,000 square feet of retail space. About 30% of its units are labeled as “affordable housing,” and rents start at $3,870 for studios.

Apart from luxury dining and units, The Brook houses premier amenities, including a “dog washing station, basketball and pickleball court, gym, yoga studio and business center.”

Brooklyn diners will have to wait until 2027 to enjoy Din Tai Fung’s signature dishes, but in the meantime, fans can visit the chain’s Manhattan location for a taste of what’s to come.
